[flatboys] Kefin: attempts at rerooting
Okay, I finally got down to try rerooting Kefin. And gah. Mebbe I should have paid more attention to the instructions. -_- Strong and thin polyester thread, damn it. All I had was the normal stuff used in sewing which kept snapping. -_-
But anyways, despite my lousy string, I tried doing more plugs. Three snaps and well, at least the pathetically small section which took an hour is still stuck on the head and won't come out unless you use some strength. T_T I am hoping I can go out tonight to buy that polyester thread, whatever it is. T_T And then I will continue rooting when I get my good thread. -_-

Kefin isn't going to have as many hair colors as I had originally planned. I think this particular purple will be his whole head and he'll have black streaks throughout. Only problem is, I don't really know when and where to put in the streaks so I'm just gonna do it all in an organised fashion. ^_^; Every three plugs of wine, you get one plug of black, that was how I had been going about. Maybe I'll be able to improvise once I get more plugs in and can see how the streaks will work.
Another problem is, I don't really know where to work towards. But since Kefin will have a side parting, I thought I'd work from there. And after I get the hair parted, I will go around from the outside of the head, and work my way towards the crown. ^_^;
The instructions are pretty straight forward and easy to follow. One problem was that it was hard to poke the needle out where I wanted it to go. So in the end, I added another step to the process. -_- I poke my needle in (instead of out) with a loop of thread through it. And I pretend this is the eye of needle in the instructions. Dunno if you get me. But it works well for me. And saves me time from blindly poking my needle in and out. And this way, you can root everywhere your needle might not be able to seem to reach. ^_^
Another problem I found was trying to estimate how much hair to use for each plug. *laughs* I'm using hair from a wig I've no use for. ^_^; So I gotta spend time to estimate how how thick I want a plug to be and cut it off. ^_^;;
It's been fun so far. Slow-going and somewhat tedious, but it's kinda cool to see the plugs on the head increasing. *grin*
Good luck! :)
Good luck with your rerooting. :) It's a tough process, but if you do it well it's very rewarding. :)
Wow, that's a new rerooting method. When I started rerooting one of my 1/6s, I had to do it the old-fashioned way, where you have to cut and knot each individual plug. It took me 45 minutes just to do THREE plugs. x_X; Maybe I'll try this instead...
Anyway, good luck! I can't wait to see it when it's finished. :3
Rooting is tedious work and will take a while for you to do, especially if you are rerooting a head like this. This is your first time rerooting, Sephy? If so, just take your time and don't give up.
Try not to put too much hair thru each plug cuz you can ruin the plug that way. Use some plyers to pull the needle thru if you have a hard time pushing it thru.
You're doing good! Keep up the good work! ^^ Just imagine how good he will look and that will keep you going! :D
You could use floss instead of polyester thread :p
Zomborr~! I got the method from Nat. Hohohoho~! It seemed easier than trying to make a rooting tool and for rerooting so I went with it. So far, it's been good. Though I think using the tension method is probably a lot quicker. *grin*
Jo, I think I kinda wrongly estimated how far apart the holes should be and how thick a plug should be. *laughs* I'm doing the middle parting right now and I figure, I can just plug in hair where there seems to be a bald spot. *grin*
PJ~ Muahahahaha~! Right now, all that hair hanging around the head is amusing me! *laughs*
Brent~! My polyester thread is working fine. ^o^ Which is a good thing. The only floss around the house is minty. ^_^;; I don't think I would have been able to stand the smell after an hour. *_*
