[street] Durian
One of my most favourite things to eat.. ^_^

The durian's flesh is a bit of an acquired taste. Different types of durians taste and smell different. My favourite ones are the small ones with long thin spikes and which has orangy/red flesh like in the pic. ^_^
There's no describing how a durian tastes...
Sometimes, I'm inclined to say it's like eating something from the lab. Pop a seed in your mouth and you'll feel like you've put a strong chemical in your mouth. *laughs*
It's yummy, really. ^_^;;
I've never had a fresh durian. I've had durian flavored cookies and a durian ice pop, but not the fresh fruit. I guess it's 'cause I don't know how to tell whether or not it's fresh or how to open it...
But the ones I always saw were the ones with the short yellow spikes. I didn't know there were other kinds. Reminds me of how my mother tells me that back in Ecuador there are many different kinds of mangos (she hates mangos, though).
It's kind of like kim chee. No, not the flavor, but the experience. You open it up and the smell hits you and you go, "Woah! I forgot it smelled like that!" and then you get used to it again and eat it up 'cause it's tasty.
(I finally got sad pinky! YAY! :D)
The flavoured stuff don't often taste like the real thing unless the flavouring is pure durian in itself. Over here, some people sell durian cream puffs or durian cake rolls, where the cream/icing is made of durian. *grin* The flavour is really good. *laughs*
The short yellow spikes are different from the ones in the picture. Those are more common, and usually imported from Thailand or Malaysia, I think.
